Every week, we have plenty of opportunities for our youngest patrons to come in and discover new things at the library.  Take a look below for our lists of upcoming and regularly scheduled programs.

Youth Programming Schedule

Recurring Programs

FAMILY STORYTIME & PLAYTIME

Join us to share songs, rhymes, books, and a lot of movement! This program starts at 10:30 AM and are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Depending on the weather and the time of year, storytimes can be held inside on the main level or outside the library. Families are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on, but it’s not strictly necessary for our indoor sessions. 

This program is for toddlers, preschoolers, and their families. Registration is required but only one registration is necessary for a series of story times even if you don’t plan to attend them all. A series of playtimes generally run for six consecutive weeks and registration information is primarily used to call in case of a cancellation. 

BABY STORYTIME

Come enjoy a half hour of fun with your baby! We’ll share songs, finger plays, stories, and rhymes. Meet other parents and their babies, and enjoy some special time together. This program is intended for babies ages 0-18 months and is held on Tuesdays in the program room on our main level.

Siblings are welcome and only one registration is required for a series of storytimes which usually run for six weeks at a time. 

BLOCK PARTY

Join us at the library to explore our block and toys collection in the company of other families. Use your hands to stack pieces together, knock them down, and start all over again. Block Party is a Pennsylvania State Library initiative aimed to encourage the use of block play for developmental and learning growth in young children.

We will set up our program room with building toys and manipulatives encouraging children to self-guide their participation. This is a drop-in program for all ages so you’re welcome to join us for as little or as much as you can, but we ask that you register so we know you’re coming.

Block Party is held once a month.

 

ROBOTICS & CODING CLUB

Stop by the library and engage with a variety of toys and tools that allow you to develop your skills in robotics, programming, and coding. We’ll offer access to educational items that will encourage kids, and adults alike, to learn the basics of coding and programming.

This self-guided, drop-in program is for all ages, so patrons are welcome to stop by for as little or as much as they like, but we ask for registration so we know you’re coming.

Robotics & Coding Club is held once a month.

CHESS CLUB

Come to the library to practice your chess skills and play against other kids in the community. We will set up the program room with chess sets and tables for families to meet up and play a few rounds of chess in an informal setting. Bring any interesting exercises, openings, or moves you’d like to share with others.

Luna’s Magic Flute – October 7

Saturday October 7 3:30 – 4:30 pm Luna’s Magic Flute is a delightful musical fairytale. Throughout this musical story, Luna spreads kindness and joy. Unfortunately, the mean dragon isn’t pleased! Come find out what the dragon does to try to squash this joyful music. The music will be performed by Madison Chen, Celestial Hou, Jackie Li, and Sophia Yu on flute, with the story narrated by Kathy Blocki. Registration is required.

Take Home Crafts – September 5 – October 10

Tuesdays, September 5 – October 10 @ Library’s Lobby

Kids (and adults!) of all ages are invited to create and enjoy a simple, paper take-home craft! Please call or register online to reserve a weekly supply kit that can be picked up and enjoyed at home. This program will run from September 5-October 10. Registration is required each week to account for supplies.

Weekly STEAM Project: September 5 – October 10

Welcome to The Weekly Project, a program featuring a variety of activities that can be enjoyed from home like cooking, crafting, art, and STEM. Each week will showcase a different project for children to do with their families, and will include take-home materials. This program will have a six-week session that runs from September 5-October 10; and is for kids of all ages. Registration is required each week to account for supplies.

Baby Playtime: September 5 – October 10

Tuesdays September 5 – October 10 @11:00 am

Wednesdays, September 6 – October 11 @10:30 am

Come enjoy some toys and games before the start of our outside family story time every Wednesday and Thursday morning from September 6 -October 12!

This program is an outside event located on our side lawn (behind the library’s book drops), and is weather permitting. We ask families to bring a blanket or camping chair for somewhere to sit, and a rattle or noise making toy to play along with our music. We will move storytime inside in case of bad weather.

This program is for toddlers, preschoolers and their families. All ages are welcome.

Math For Girls, October 7

Saturday, October 7 – 9:30 am

Math for Girls is a free math competition for late elementary and middle school-aged girls dedicated to empower young women’s education and engagement in STEM. The competition will start at 9:30 AM. Any type of competitive math experience is NOT REQUIRED or EXPECTED! We encourage students of all levels and knowledge to participate.

Pinwheel Galaxy

Nature-ology: Outer Space, Stars, Black Holes and the Big Bang – October 10

Tuesday October 10, 5:30 – 6:30 pm

The universe is stranger than we can imagine. A black hole can spin a galaxy of stars around it; matter can be almost totally invisible; empty space isn’t really empty; and just how big was the Big Bang? Find out at Natureology with Tony Palermo.

This program is for all ages.

Northern Tier Chess Club – October 16

Monday October 16, 5:00 – 6:00 pm

Come to the library to practice your chess skills and play against other kids in the community. Build-It Saturday: October 21

Join us at the library and bring your best building skills to work alongside dad, mom, a grandparent, or a guardian to put together a wooden project. There will be two projects to choose from: a fire rescue boat or a pencil-shaped desk organizer.

Wear comfy clothes and be ready to put some effort into your hammering skills. This program is for ages 6 and up. Registration is required.

Halloween Celebration – October 30, 2023

Monday October 30, 5:30 – 6:30 pm

Join us for some outdoor Halloween fun. We’ll have trick-or-treating, spooky take home craft kits and silly activities that you must complete in order to get candy.

This event will be held outdoors and it’s weather permitting. We will host indoors in case of rain. 

For all ages, registration is required.
