A library card is the key to discovering the many resources and programs available to all residents of Allegheny County. Library cards are free to all residents and the initial application process can take place online for patrons over 18, or in person at the Northern Tier Library.

Apply in Person:

In order to apply for a library card in person you will need to fill out the application, present photo identification, in addition to proof of address.

Minors will need a parent/guardian to sign for them.

Residents outside of Allegheny County may also receive a free card if their home county library participates in Access PA

  • This service currently is only for adult patrons over 18. If seeking a juvenile card, business card, or other special-use library card, please visit your local library in person.
  • If the system is unable to validate your information, you will be issued a temporary eCard that allows you access to electronic resources for 30 days. To upgrade to a card with full borrowing privileges, visit an Allegheny County public library with proof of ID and current address.
