Libraries Rock! is the theme for this year’s Adult Learning Program. Adults will be able to enter for prizes by reading books and attending programs. We will be offering adult programming every Thursday evening at 7:00 pm during the Summer Learning Program.

Thursday Night Programming
Thursdays, June 21 – August 2, 7:00 – 9:00 pm

June 21: Movies Rock!
Join us for a night of singing and dancing as we watch The Greatest Showman, an original musical inspired by P.T. Barnum and the birth of show business. Watch Hugh Jackman sing his heart out! Free popcorn and a great movie, what more can you ask for! Registration is requested.

June 28: Knitting for a Cause: Part One
Last summer, Knit Lit participated in the Summer Learning Program by making scarves for the Red Scarf Project, which was a huge success. This year we want to help those in need a little closer to home by donating hats, scarves, or both to KnitHope. KnitHope collects and distributes handmade scarves and hats for those in need in the Pittsburgh area. While these items provide physical warmth for our city’s winters, they also send a much needed message to those who may be struggling that people in their community care about them.

For more information, you can check out KnitHope’s website at www.knithope.org. We will go over the guidelines and hand out some pattern ideas. In addition, if you do not know how to knit but would like to learn, we can teach you!

July 5: Rock Painting
Come to the library to create something beautiful from rocks! Registration is required.

July 12: Books Rock!
Recently downsized, web designer Clay Jansen needs a job. He finds refuge working the night shift at a quirky bookstore. But, after a few nights on the job, he realizes that the regular customers never buy books. He puts his tech skills to the test, and develops an analysis of their behavior. In doing so, he uncovers a mystery far beyond his imaginings. Join Bridget’s Book Club for a discussion of Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan.

July 19: Rock, Paper, Scissors
Adults are invited to a crafting extravaganza! We’ll put paper and scissors to good use, experimenting with origami, collages, and other paper crafts. There will also be adult coloring pages, and a variety of puzzles to exercise your mind. Please register in advance so we can be sure to have enough supplies.

July 26: Knitting for a Cause: Part Two
Show off your finished project for KnitHope!

August 2: Rock Out with a Mosaic Picture Frame
Make old discs into art by cutting them up and arranging them on a piece of cardboard to create a picture frame that you can display your favorite picture in. Registration is required.
