Summer is finally here! Northern Tier Library invites all children and teens from birth to 18 to participate in our 2016 Summer Reading Clubs: On Your Mark, Get Set, Read and Get In The Game: Read. Join us for programs and prizes all summer long. Sign up for the Summer Reading Club to receive a bag and folder to collect stamps. You can collect up to 50 stamps throughout the summer and exchange them for awesome prizes at our Summer Reading Club Bash!
The rules are as follows:
• One stamp per book read. You can report on a maximum of six books per visit.
• One stamp per program attended.
• You can earn a maximum of 50 stamps.
We can’t wait for you to start collecting and completing all 50 stamps! In the meantime, we’ll have prizes and raffles to keep you occupied… Oh! And lots of books, movies, and games too!
Kids Summer Reading Club
“On Your Mark, Get Set, Read” is theme for this year’s Summer Reading Club! Kids, get ready for plenty of prizes! This year, we have raised the limit to 50 books and you can also get credit for attending our programs.
Kick-Off Celebration: Saturday, June 18, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
You’ll have the opportunity to sign-up early for the Summer Reading Club while getting a preview of the activities and programs that will be available throughout the summer. Families welcome!
Family Fun Mondays
Mondays, June 20 – August 1, 10:30 – 11:30 AM
Families are encouraged to join us every Monday for some sports-related fun!
Penguins & Hockey: June 20
Celebrate one of Pittsburgh’s most beloved sports teams and learn about basic circuitry. You can even build your own goal light! There will be plenty of hockey related activities and Penguins crafts. Registration is required.
Mini Golf at the Library: June 27
Come and enjoy some family time mini golfing at the library! We’ll build a course with books and enjoy other golf related activities and crafts. Registration is required.
Puppy-lympics: July 11
Animal Friends of Pittsburgh, and some of their furry friends, will join us for a morning of play! We’ll have 10 different events to complete in our puppy-themed Decathlon. Please consider bringing a donation to support the fantastic work Animal Friends of Pittsburgh does for our community. Registration is required.
PPG Chemistry Presentation: July 18
Join PPG’s Science Education team for an hour of chemical wonders in an interactive presentation that showcases substances and their reactions. Registration is required.
Pirates & Baseball: July 25
Take me out to the library, and celebrate baseball! We’ll make robotic arms that can swing a bat, and practice our own swing as well. We’ll compliment it with lots of Pirates crafts and activities. Arrr, matey! Registration is required.
Metals (Steel!) & Football: August 1
Learn about the properties of different elements, then play with magnets to perform neat experiments. We’ll also enjoy some football related activities and crafts. Registration is required.
Art Club Tuesdays
Tuesdays, June 21 – August 2, 1:00 – 2:00 PM
All artists needed! No experience necessary! Come and create something fun. This program is for ages 5 – 10. Registration is required.
Baby Playtime
Tuesdays, June 21 – August 2, 10:30 – 11:00 AM
Enjoy a half hour of fun with your baby! We’ll share songs, finger plays, stories, and rhymes. Meet other parents and their babies, and enjoy some special time together. This program is intended for infants ages 0 – 18 months. Registration is required.
Read, Rumble, and Roll
Wednesdays, June 22 – August 3, 10:30 – 11:15 AM or

Come and enjoy a very active story time for all members of the family. We will read books, dance around, play games, and make crafts all while enjoying quality time together. This program is for young children and their families. Registration is required (Wednesdays or Thursdays).
Wii Sports & Legos Wednesdays
Wednesdays, June 22 – August 3, 1:00 – 3:00 PM
Sharpen your virtual athletic skills with two hours of tennis, baseball, golf, and other sports-related games each week at our Nintendo Wii event! While you’re there, have some fun with the legos and other games, too!
Family Fitness
Thursdays, June 23 – August 4, 1:00 – 1:30 PM
Enjoy a half hour filled with games, circuits, drills, dance, exercise, and yoga in the company of your family. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes! This program is for young children and their families. Registration is required.

Family Drop-In Programs
Each activity will be available for one week during regular library hours. All ages and all family members are encouraged to stop by and enjoy!
Sports Haikus: June 20 – June 25
Write a haiku about your favorite sport or sports team.
Coloring Pages: June 27 – July 1
Enjoy the coloring craze by visiting the library to color. There will be markers and a variety of coloring pages available.
Design A Logo: July 5 – July 9
Design a logo for your own sports team, or redesign the logo of an existing team! You can even create a logo for a fictional sport- like quidditch!
Book Review: July 11 – July 16
Tell us about that great book you just finished and loved (or hated!) Who knows? You might persuade
someone to give it a try.
Draw Your Own Comic: July 18 – July 23
Use a preset comic panel page to tell your own short story with drawings.
Blackout Poetry: July 25 – July 30
Transform a regular book page into poetry by blacking out portions of the text and leaving a poem in its wake.
Paper Football: August 1 – August 5
Practice your origami skills by folding a paper football and trying to “kick” it through the uprights for a field goal.
Summer Reading Club Bash: Saturday, August 6, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Come and celebrate the end of our Summer Reading Club! Arrive promptly at 11:00 AM for a juggling show, followed by the opening of our Prize Market! Don’t forget your Summer Reading Club stamp card. Play games, make crafts, and enjoy a jump in the bouncy castle. The party lasts until 2:00 PM. Hooray for reading!
