This year, teens can enter for prizes by reading books (without answering lots of questions!) and by taking part in activities. Don’t worry– all of these activities are “drop-in” so you can participate on your own schedule.
Visit the teen drop-in area when you want, Monday through Saturday, during regular library hours. Earning badges makes you eligible for prizes!
June 15 – 20: Haiku Writing
Join us for some warm-up writing all week. Come and create one or more haikus and share them on our summer board.
June 22 – 27: Oh the Books You’ll Review
Did you love that book you just finished? Share a quick review with us! Write something in our drop-in area or share it digitally with one of our volunteers. Facebook, Tumblr, Goodreads, and even Instagram are fair game.
June 29 – July 3: Star Wars Paper Folding
Start with a piece of paper and end up with a Star Wars character! We’ll provide the folding paper and instructions to create origami based on this popular series.
July 6 – 11: Redesign That Book Cover
Maybe you really like that book, but can’t stand the cover. Do you think you can do better? Redesign the cover of a book you just finished, or maybe one of your old favorites, and show us your inner designer.
July 13 – 18: Adventure Time Bookmarks
You can never have enough bookmarks. Come and make your own using popsicle sticks and markers in our teen drop-in area.
July 20 – 25: Three Panel Comic Book Review
Just can’t find the words to express how you felt about a book? Draw it instead! Show us a simple three panel comic that tells us about a book you finished.
July 27 – 31: Cube Head Superheroes
We love superheroes too, so much that we like to see them in every little corner. Come and make your own papercraft cube head superhero.
Teen Move Night
Wednesday, June 24, 6:00 – 8:30 PM: The Avengers [PG-13]
Get ready for a marvelous night! We are showing the first action-packed, superhero mega hit, Marvel’s The Avengers. Free popcorn for all!
Wednesday, July 22, 6:00 – 8:00 PM: Guardians of the Galaxy [PG-13]

Pittsburgh: City of Learning
This summer, Northern Tier Library will be participating in a new project lead by The Sprout Fund called Pittsburgh City of Learning.
Through this program, tweens and teens ages 10 to 18 will be able to participate in summer learning activities at the library to earn digital badges to show off their hard work. Come to the library to play, learn, make, and earn badges!
All you need is an email account and our summer volunteers can help you get started.
This program will run for the entire summer alongside our regular 2015 Teen Summer Reading Club: Unmask!
